Out of the big networks, it’s just O2 and Virgin Mobile that so far haven’t brought back EU roaming charges

Tesco Mobile are the latest big mobile network to reintroduce roaming charges for those travelling and using their phone in the EU.
They join EE, Vodafone, Three and Sky Mobile who have also taken the same step.
Like others, previously Tesco Mobile had said they wouldn’t be bring back fees but a new change in their terms and conditions states that EU roaming charges will be in place from January 1 2023, which at least means customers can benefit from free roaming for the rest of 2022.
Customers that connected before June 16 2022 won’t be affected by the change in 2023 unless they choose to upgrade.
Anyone who joined or upgraded after June 16 2022 and uses their phone abroad will be charges 10p per MB of data, 20p per text message and 55p a minute for calls.
A Tesco Mobile spokesperson said: “We understand that now, more than ever, customers want great value. That’s why we’re one of the only networks to offer free roaming this year.”
“Tesco Mobile customers can use their data, minutes, and texts at no additional cost, in 48 destinations across Europe and beyond.”
The operator also said it is committed to “providing customers with great value, in a way that only a supermarket can” and that the 2023 roaming changes allow Tesco “to invest in new offers for Tesco shoppers.”
