We have all been encouraged to keep in contact with our loved ones and vulnerable members of the community so Tesco Mobile is doing it’s bit to contribute

On the eve of April 3rd, all 5.2 million Pay Monthly, SIM only, Business and Pay-As-You-Go Tesco Mobile customers were given free and ‘unlimited’ evening and weekend calls effective while the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown is in place.

They were also given ‘free access’ to support websites including NHS, mental health advice and government guidance without affecting their data allowance.

Tesco Mobile is an MVNO which stands for Mobile Virtual Network Operator. This means that Tesco Mobile uses another network to operate it’s service which in this case is O2.

“At Tesco Mobile we always want to support our customers in the most helpful way. In these unprecedented times we’ve seen a huge increase in our customers using their minutes allowance with relatively little change to data usage or text messaging, so free minutes felt the best way to help all of our customers right now. We wanted everyone to have a chance to talk to their loved ones for free each day, especially the most vulnerable and those in isolation. We put our customers first and know that now, more than ever, every little helps.” said Tom Denyard, CEO of Tesco Mobile.

The window for these unlimited free calls is from 8pm until 8am from Monday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday until June 1st 2020.

Customers will not need to do anything to activate the offer, they just need to go ahead and make the calls and Tesco will sort out the charges their end.

It is worth mentioning too that the ‘free access’ to these sites does not include zero rate data usage for any third-party content that gets pulled in (e.g. YouTube videos, etc.). The full list of websites Tesco Mobile customers can access without using their data allowance are as follows:

  • NHS

  • Samaritans
  • Rethink Mental Illness
