There have been more than a few rumours about the latest ‘S-model’ in the Samsung Galaxy range of smartphones. With more leaks appearing by the day and a few subtle hints dropped by some of Samsung’s executives, we’re beginning to piece together the sort of specifications the new Galaxy S5 may offer.

First up is the speculation that Samsung will in fact bring out 2 different Galaxy S5 handsets. It’s possible that Samsung will follow Apple’s lead and launch a higher spec metal S5 smartphone and a cheaper plastic model. So far, Samsung have only produced plastic smartphones in their Galaxy range of handsets. It’s also been reported that the metal and plastic versions of the Galaxy S5 will come with different processors such as the 64-bit Exynos CPU for the metal phone and a Snapdragon 805 CPU for the plastic one. Both of these processors will mean that the S5 will be noticeably quicker and more powerful than the S4. It’s also thought that the Galaxy S5 will run on Android KitKat 4.4.

Many reports on the forthcoming S5 are pointing to a bigger screen-size with a 5.25-inch Super AMOLED screen being frequently mentioned. This would be 0.25 inch increase in size if you compare it to the Galaxy S4 and would give the S5 a resolution of 2560 x 1440. A pretty powerful 2900 mAh battery has also been suggested and apparently it will feature ‘rapid charge’ technology which means it could be completely recharged in under 2 hours.

The latest rumours we have is that the S5 will feature some sort of scanning technology. Some reports allude to an iris scanner whilst others seem to think a fingerprint scanner is more likely to be included. Samsung’s fingerprint scanner could be built into the handset’s touchscreen though rather than being a separate entity.

The Galaxy S5 camera has been the subject of quite a bit of debate with suggestions ranging from 8 to 16-megapixels, however the latest reports indicate the likelihood of a 20-megapixel rear mounted camera similar to the one featured in the Sony Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact. The S5’s camera could also be used to take photos whilst recording video at the same time.

We could see the S5 being unveiled as early as March before being rolled out to the shops for sale in April. Keep an eye on our blog for the latest news on the Samsung Galaxy S5, we’ll keep you up to date with any news as we get it.
