Okay, we’re joking, but a removable battery on a smartphone is a rare thing these days.

The rugged phone is the latest in Samsung’s XCover series which targets folk working outdoors in industries such as construction, as well as outdoor sports enthusiasts.

Features such as increased screen sensitivity allow the 6.6″ Full HD+ touch screen to be used when it’s wet or when wearing gloves. Dust and water resistance are included as standard with an IP68 and MIL-STD 810H rating.

The display itself uses Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+, so one of the tougher screens you’ll find on a phone but of course, not invincible.

The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G processor, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

For the camera, there is a dual-lens setup on the rear (50MP and 8MP), plus a 13 megapixel selfie camera.

The aforementioned removable battery will please some.  It’s 4,050mAh so should last a day but can be replaced at any time by removing the back cover and putting in a new one. Back in the day, most phones had removable batteries, but in 2022 it’s not something you see too often. You can see how this will be of use to some people, especially if they’re heavy phone users or away from home or the office for multiple days at a time.

And if you’re not a battery swapper, you’ll be pleased to know you can still charge the phone just like any other, with the Xcover 6 Pro including 15W fast-charging via USB-C.

The phone is DeX compatible, which means you can connect the device to an external display, keyboard and mouse if needed.

The final key feature are two physical buttons that can mapped to most of the phone’s features so you can use it to open a certain app or turn on the torch.

The Xcover 6 Pro goes on sale in the UK during July, as well as the rest of Europe, Asia and the Middle East. A US launch is still to be confirmed.
