The offer type, popular in the USA, is now available in the UK.
Traditional SIM only plans usually have you paying a monthly price each, either on a 1 month rolling subscription, or a 12-24 month contract if you want get yourself a bit of a discount. UK mobile operator Mozillion is one such provider that offers SIM plans, phone contracts and Travel eSIMs, but this month they’ve launched a new way to pay for a mobile plan which could save you even more.
Mozillion’s Pay Monthly Plus SIM (not sure what the ‘Plus’ bit means, but assume it’s to show they are different from normal pay monthly plans) lets you pay 50% of a 24 month plan upfront in a single one-off payment, and then the remaining 50% monthly as normal over the 2 years.
It’s a similar concept to a traditional mobile phone contract, where you pay something upfront and then a monthly amount, except it’s a SIM only plan.
Why bother paying something upfront I hear you ask? Well, just like a phone contract, the more you can pay upfront, usually the bigger the overall discount, and this is where the savings really stack up.
For example, on Mozillion’s 100GB plan, you pay 50% upfront – which is £84. Then after that you’ll be paying just £3.50 a month for 24 months. That includes 100GB of uncapped speed 5G data every month, unlimited calls and texts and inclusive EU roaming.
There are no mid-contract price increases so that price is locked in for 2 years.
We’re pretty impressed.
Now to do the maths to see how it compares with perhaps what you’re already paying your current provider….
£3.50 a month x 24 months = £84. Plus the £84 you pay upfront. Total cost = £168. Divide the £168 over 24 months and its the equivalent to paying just £7 a month for 100GB . We think that may well be the lowest price in the UK for that much data.
Of course, you do have to pay something upfront on these Pay Monthly Plus SIMs so they won’t be for everyone, but if you are in a position to do so, you’ll be saving yourself quite a bit. For comparison, Mozillion offer 100GB on a traditional 1 month rolling plan for £13 a month, so this deal is 47% cheaper, saving you £144 over 2 years.
For those that don’t want or need 100GB, Mozillion also offer this type of plan on an 80GB and a 30GB plan.

Paying upfront for a SIM plan may sound like a totally new concept but it is one that is quite popular already with customers and operators in the US already.
Mozillion supports physical SIM card and eSIM, and also allow tethering/hotspots if you want to share your connection with other devices.
