Ever smashed your phone screen and then forked out a load of cash to have it repaired, only to think “I could probably do this myself”? There are loads of YouTube videos on the subject for those that fancy taking on the task, but the challenge for us consumers (outside of the actual skills required) has always been getting hold of official, genuine replacement parts.  Well, DIY-enthusiasts fear no more, as Samsung has brought its Self-Repair program to the UK.

The program supports repairs for the Samsung Galaxy S20, S21 and S22 series of phones, alongside the Galaxy Book Pro and Pro 360 laptops.  More devices will be added soon.

If you’re feeling up to the challenge you can replace your own phone screen, back glass and charging ports and you only have to pay for the parts – as you’ll be doing the work yourself.  Galaxy Book Pro series owners will be able to replace the case front, rear, display, battery, touchpad, power key (including finger-print reader) and rubber feet.

The tools are included in the kits, which you can then keep for future repairs.

Samsung is working to extend the lifecycle of our devices to encourage users to experience the optimised performance of their Galaxy device for as long as possible,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics.

Samsung launched the Self-Repair program last year in the United States and rolls out across the UK and other parts of Europe from the end of June 2023.  More info will be available on Samsung’s website.
