Realme have launched their brand new 7 series smartphones, promoted as the fastest charging phones of their kind from a price of only £179. Pre-orders opened on the 7th of October, and these feature-packed devices mean hit the sweet spot in term of price point for smartphone users seeking a well-specced, affordable smartphone over flagship branding – the specs truly are pretty impressive.

What devices are available?

The 7 Pro edition, on sale from the 13th October, comes with 8GB of RAM with an extended 128GB of storage. It reaches full charge in just over half an hour, and with a 64MP camera and super AMOLED display being powered by Qualcomm’s 720G chip, you don’t need to compromise on excellent performance at this very reasonable price point.

The Realme 7, the most powerful mid-range gaming phone the market has to offer, is available in three different specifications. These are 4GB+64GB at £179, 6GB+64GB at £199 and 8GB+128GB at £239, meaning you have the power to pick and choose exactly what you need from a mobile device. These devices are all powered by the world’s first MediaTek Helio G95 Gaming Processor, and with a 5000mAh battery, that should be plenty of juice for a long gaming session or Netflix binge.

Quality and Service

If you worry about longevity when it comes to your mobile devices (after all we don’t all upgrade every two years any more), it should be less of a concern with the Realme 7 range. The Realme 7 Pro and the Realme 7 are the first smartphones to ever pass the TüV Rheinland Smartphone Reliability Verification. This is a rugged test that contains 22 major and 38 minor tests, covering many different usage scenarios and potential emergencies that your device may face.

Another strength for the Realme 7 series is the warranty. In the case that anything does go wrong, Realme offers a best-in-class service, with every Realme 7 series device coming with a 3-year warranty, which is a year longer than the usual smartphone brands (or retailer John Lewis’ popular 2 year warranty). On top of this, Realme’s free replacement service has been extended from one month to two. Realme has a “dare to leap” spirit, and is deeply committed to offering the best customer service standards in Europe. By striving for high build quality and reliable services, the customer seems firmly at the core of everything Realme does, which is great to see, especially in such a competitive market usually dominated by manufacturers so often trying to outdo each other on performance specs.

What about the camera?

With all phones, the quality of the camera is key. Thankfully, Realme 7 range has gone all in on camera features. With the latest flagship quad-camera setup, consisting of a 48MP main camera, an 8MP 119° ultra-wide-angle, and a macro lens and a B&W portrait lens, it should be able to handle most everyday photos and keep your Instagram feed looking good. With the light-sensing abilities of the Samsung GM1 sensor and the wide viewing angle offered by the lens, you won’t have to lean back to get the perfect snap. These are just the specs for the base version, with the Pro taking the camera to the next level with more megapixels and an improved light sensor.

How good is the display?

Both models feature an excellent display, with over 90% screen-to-body ratio. Both models come with 2400x1080p screens, offering you a FullHD+ experience, making the device great for streaming and videos. Plus, with a chip that is friendly for gaming, the 180Hz refresh rate should allow the OLED screen to thrive with high image quality and power efficiency. In addition to the features of the screen itself, the fingerprint scanner is in-display, making it much more convenient to use than traditional off-display scanners.

The Verdict

We’re yet to fully review the Realme 7 range but looking at the spec and build, it’s proving itself to be an excellent option for a mid-range smartphone. The OLED display, chipset, large battery and camera spec means that the device has the potential to go toe-to-toe with even some of the higher pricepoint smartphones, making it a perfect option for those that don’t want to splash out on the most expensive devices on the market. You can order the Realme 7 and the Realme 7 Pro from Amazon or directly from Realme’s website.
