The new mid-range smartphone is one of the best value mobiles out there
Following weeks of teasing, OnePlus finally unveiled its latest line of mid-range phones, the OnePlus Nord. Released on August 4 of this year, the OnePlus Nord model was designed as a meeting point between the brand’s cheaper options and higher-price-point offerings. This is great for those that want to be treated to some of the phone industry’s newest and most exciting features, without the extravagant costs.
What’s the price point of the OnePlus Nord?
The OnePlus Nord has a modest price point of £379, which is a stark difference to some of the brand’s other models, which retail anywhere between £700-800. It’s available direct from OnePlus or you can pick it up at Amazon.
What features does and doesn’t the OnePlus Nord have?
With its tongue-in-cheek press release tagline “Pretty much everything you could ask for”, the OnePlus Nord offers users a wealth of reliable features often seen on higher market phones – but it does cut some corners, too.
Firstly, the OnePlus Nord does boast an OLED screen and 5G capabilities, so this is a phone perfect for anyone concerned with staying up-to-date with the latest generation of mobile data innovations. Compared to 4G, 5G networks are proving to have a wealth of advantages, including faster data transfer times, lower latency, increased bandwidth, and higher data capacity. So an affordable 5G-operational model such as the OnePlus Nord is sure to prove popular.
Aside from 5G and the 90Hz AMOLED display, the OnePlus Nord also matches the camera capabilities of its more expensive sister phone, the OnePlus 8, with a 48MP Sony sensor. Keeping on with cameras, the OnePlus Nord has more than enough, with a grand total of 6 cameras on the front and back. The model boasts 8MP ultra-wide lens, 4K video at 30fps and 1080p at 60fps, as well as various shot modes such as Portrait and Nightscape.
Continuing with hardware, the OnePlus Nord has a 4,115mAh battery with Warp Charge 30T fast charging, matches other popular brands with an in-display fingerprint sensor, and also has dual nanoSIM slots. While wireless charging isn’t an option, the OnePlus Nord keeps up with innovation in some regard by opting for the no-headphone-jack route; instead, wireless buds will be available to buy at £79 from July 21.
What about the design?
While undeniably not as sleek as models offered by some competitors, the OnePlus Nord still packs a streamlined, attractive appearance. Sitting at 6.44 inches tall, 8.2mm thick, and 184g in weight, the OnePlus Nord model is ever so slightly heavier than the OnePlus 8. Despite this, it’s still excellently manageable and not hefty in the hand or pocket, meaning day-to-day use is comfortable.
The back of the OnePlus Nord is Gorilla Glass 5 and is available in two shiny shades: Grey ‘Onyx’ and blue ‘Marble’. These are both universally appealing shades to most, if not all, users, being totally inoffensive to the eye and flattering with a number of protective cases.
Overall, if you’re looking for a reliable, affordable mid-range phone that cuts the right corners on premium features while still offering a rich range of cutting edge qualities, particularly in its camera capacities, then the OnePlus Nord could be an excellent choice for you.
You can order the OnePlus Nord from OnePlus UK direct or via Amazon.
