Is it 1999 Again? Nokia 3210 Relaunched

Back once again to celebrate it’s 25th anniversary – and the ‘dumbphone’ boom

The Nokia phone that had the whole world talking is back once again for 2024, and it’s available in three late-nineties inspired colours.

HMD, the folks that make Nokia phones these days, have released an upgraded version of the Nokia 3210.  With ‘dumbphones’ making a comeback as people look to return to simpler times, Nokia have seen huge growth in sales for basic feature phones, and makers HMD expect to see more growth in this market throughout 2024.

These types of phones provide a solution for those looking to have a digital detox from smartphones or spend less time on time sucking apps such as Facebook and TikTok.  In fact, Nokia found that almost 4 in 10 (38%) of 16-24 year olds worry that they spend too much time on their smartphones.

25 years ago when the Nokia 3210 first launched, it very quickly became one of the most popular phones around the world, selling hundreds of millions of units. The upgraded 2024 version of the Nokia 3210 exists to help people stay connected, but also be able to take a break from social media, the internet and endless app notifications.  The new Nokia 3210 has had a few new features added for the re-release, but still has a sleek retro design and includes all the main functions that you would expect from a feature phone, including a 2 megapixel camera with a flash, a long lasting 1450mAh battery which should last all day, and because it’s 2024, the Nokia 3210 also now supports 4G.

Perhaps for some, the most important 3210 feature carried over to the new model is the inclusion of a torch.

“The Nokia 3210 has simplicity at its core, allowing consumers to be totally present.”

“The Nokia 3210, a cultural icon, is back at the pinnacle of global dumbphone boom as consumers look to balance their screen time usage with a digital detox. The Nokia 3210 has simplicity at its core, allowing consumers to be totally present. Forget dumbphone, this is 2024’s fun phone” says Lars Silberbauer, CMO of Human Mobile Devices (HMD).

Back in 1999 and the early 2000s, the original Nokia 3210 was one of the phones to be seen with and Nokia are hoping for similar success in 2024, positioning the new Nokia 3210 as a must have lifestyle and accessory for festival season and festival-goers, thanks to its robustness and no nonsense functionality.

And for those of you wondering, yes Snake is of course included so get your thumbs ready and see if you could be our high score.

The Nokia 3210 is available now from HMD for £74.99 and comes in scuba blue, grunge black and Y2K gold.
