Minecraft Gets That Little Bit More Real With Interactive Play on Netflix

Netflix creates great shows and Minecraft is a game…welcome to the crossover.

Minecraft is an immersive game available on most consoles and PCs which allows you to build your own world using 3D blocks. The world itself is open ended and dynamically generates plants, mountains, lakes, items and mobs (enemies). There are several different modes that you can play on and your imagination is the limit to what you can do. You can jump to different worlds using portals, keep pets and build yourself a fortress complete with 8 pools and a sauna if you so desire.

Netflix is betting big on ‘interactive stories’

Netflix, known for it’s award winning story-telling, clearly recognises the addictive nature of Minecraft and is getting in on the action with Minecraft: Story Mode available now.  The successful console game from Telltale Games. It is not the first interactive game that Netflix has toyed with. ‘Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale’ launched last year and allowed children 10 – 15 seconds to make a decision using their TV remote, game controller or touchscreen. If you couldn’t decide in that time, the decision was made for you. A great exercise for children prone to procrastination or highly stressful? You decide.

You’re the star

Minecraft: Story Mode stars you as Jesse (who can be male or female) and it is more of a choose-your-own-adventure style experience than your typical ‘Call Of Duty’ adventure game.  Cult favourite, Corey Feldman voices one of the characters among other celebrities including Patton Oswalt, Catherine Taber, Brian Posehn, John Hodgman, Matthew Mercer and David Fennoy. There are currently three episodes available to play on Netflix: The Order of the Stone (94 minutes), Assembly Required (38 minutes), and The Last Place You Look (73 minutes) so there is plenty to keep you busy until the next two arrive. The series is accessible on iOS (iPhone), smart TVs, consoles and computers and was created by Telltale games which sadly shut down earlier this year after many years of making great interactive story games including The Walking Dead.

The last two episodes of Minecraft: Story Mode will drop on December 5th 2018.
