Huawei unveiled its latest smartphone recently – the Mate 8 – and is touting it as the “most advanced flagship smartphone” till date. While it is only available in China now, details of its UK release will be announced at CES 2016.
Will the Huawei Mate 8 be your phone of choice in 2016? Let’s have a look, shall we?
Design
To begin with, the Mate 8 looks stunning. Its metallic unibody with a grid finish on the back comes in two fresh colours – Champagne Gold and Mocha Brown – along with the standard Moonlight Silver and Space Gray.
Display
It’s a big phone and can be classified as a phablet, with a 6 inch screen. That’s larger than the Nexus 6P or the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL, which have 5.7 inch displays or LG G4 (5.5 inches). The screen looks larger than life thanks to the thin bezels surrounding it, which pull your attention to the display.
Processor & Storage
An octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor with a whopping 3GB RAM will ensure that the phone keeps up to all your multitasking needs. Apparently there’s another version with 4GB RAM – even better!
And while it only comes with 32GB of internal storage, the option of expandable storage steps up the game.
Camera
A 16 megapixel snapper on the rear and an 8 for the front may not be ideal, considering we’re seeing 20 and 23 megapixels in smartphones today but the addition of features such as optical image stabilization, phase detection autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash ensure it will more than suffice.
OS
The Huawei Mate 8 uses the manufacturer’s fourth edition of Emotion UI. This lies on top of the latest Android OS version – Marshmallow.
Battery
We’ve left the best for the last with this quick review – the Huawei Mate 8 packs a 4000mAH battery. So you don’t have to worry about that large screen eating away at your battery life! The quick charge option speeds it up by bringing the battery life up 37% in 30 minutes.
That’s all we have on the Mate 8 – what do you think of it? Will it serve your needs? Are you a phablet-lover? Tell us in the comments or on Facebook here: https://facebook.com/directmobilesuk/
