Google has unveiled the latest phone in the Google Pixel range, the Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro. Here’s all you need to know.

Boasting a vast array of new technology, features, and an impressive price tag, the new Google Pixel range is looking to take the UK by storm and give both Apple and Samsung a viable challenger for the best smartphone crown – especially when it comes to photos.

Google Pixel 6 Release Date

It was only announced by Google at the Pixel Fall Launch event on the 19th of October, but both models are now available for order in the UK.

Google began shipping the new devices from the 28th of October.

Pricing

Google has continued their affordable handset pricing from the Pixel 5. The standard Google Pixel 6 will cost £599 for the 128GB model, with the price for the 256GB still to be confirmed.

As for the Pixel 6 Pro, the 128GB model will cost £849 and the 256GB will cost £949.

Of course, most people will buy the phone on a pay monthly contract. How much you pay each month will depend on how much data you need and how much you’re prepared to pay upfront.

Features

Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro

Design

The Pixel 6 has a distinctive and elegant look to it. The Pixel 6 Pro design is inspired by the finish you often find on luxury watches and jewellery. Made with a finely polished metal body that transitions into a curved glass, the colour options expertly complement the metallic frames.

Android 12

Available on both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, Android 12 offers the best way to make your phone, your phone with a number of customisation options.

The Android 12 system is designed to be as smart as possible. When you choose your wallpaper, your whole phone will change to reflect that.

The home screen and lock screen work faster and more intelligently. You will find everything you need and want that day is right there on the home screen.

Built-in with the Android 12 system is the next generation of phone security, Titan M2. This works with the Tensor security core that works overtime to protect your sensitive data PINs or passwords.

New Camera

To ensure the camera quality matches the needs of the 21st century, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro has the highest quality camera built by Google.

Both versions of the Pixel 6 has a new 1/1.3 inch sensor on the back of the phone. The main sensor will now be able to capture up to 150% more light, compared to Pixel 5’s main camera. This means your photos and videos will be even greater in quality and richer in colour. Both versions will also have a new ultrawide lens that has larger sensors. This will make sure photos still look great even when you want to fit more in.

If you were to choose the Pixel 6 Pro you would benefit from the telephoto lens that has 4x optical zoom. The Pixel 6 Pro also has up to 20x zoom with an improved Pixel’s Super Res Zoom. You will also benefit from the upgraded ultrawide front camera that records in 4K video. You can make use of this feature on Snapchat’s new ultrawide selfie feature.

A further development made by Google for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro is the new Real Tone feature. Cameras are designed to photograph light skins, and this has never changed over the years. Google has worked with various photographers and colourists to ensure their cameras can capture natural and beautiful images of our communities of colour.

Smarts and Speech

With improved speech recognition and language understanding models, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro make everyday tasks on your phone a lot easier. You will be able to use your voice to do a wide range of tasks like editing and sending messages and emails.

In a world that is becoming ever more connected, you may find yourself with friends across the world. If messages, WhatsApps or Snapchats come to your phone in another language, the Pixel will automatically translate this to your language.

Fed up of saying “Hey Google” to your phone? With the new Quick phrases, you will be able to set up phrases that mean you can quickly answer or reject a call.
