New iPads, Apple Arcade, Apple TV+ and a new Apple Watch were unveiled alongside the new iPhone 11
It’s that time of year again, where Apple gets up on stage and makes all our shiny new iPhone XRs and Apple Watches look old and dull in comparison to their exciting new models. This year’s showcase is no exception, with one of the world’s biggest tech companies bringing a wide range of updated products to us live on air. So exactly what is late 2019 and early 2020 looking like for Apple fans? Here is everything announced at the September 2019 event for you to enjoy:
The iPhone 11
The most significant and exciting announcement of this year’s Apple showcase, the iPhone 11 is the new and improved iPhone, available in an attractive array of six distinct shades. Complete with much of the XR’s successful tech, such as the 6.1-inch Liquid Retina screen, the new iPhone also features an improved camera. It does this with the addition of a second lens, one of which is wide-angle to capture those picture-perfect landscape photos. Each camera includes Night Mode, and is 12 megapixels, rivalling the smartphones brought out from other brands in recent years.
In addition to visual appeal and camera quality, the iPhone 11 also includes a boost to its internal function and power too. The A13 Bionic is the new processor included in the device, and battery life has been said to be even better than the XR. While much of the design of the new iPhone is pretty similar to fans of the brand, these small tweaks upgrade the phone into 2019 with some key added features and additional power to set it aside from past models.
The new iPhone 11 arrived int the UK on the 20th of September and is expected to be as popular – if not more so – than the XR, thanks to its excellent price point. You can compare the latest iPhone 11 deals available here.
The iPhone 11 Pro/Pro Max
Falling into line with other ‘Pro’ devices in the Apple range such as the MacBook Pro, the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max are the brand-new professional versions of the iPhone 11, offering improvements on the design of the X in a select few attractive finishes. While the Pro comes with a respectable 5.8-inch screen, the Pro Max comes with an almost tablet-worth 6.5-inch display, making it incredibly suitable for more ‘professional’ purposes.
Both the Pro and Pro Max pack Super Retina XDR technology, an entirely new display for Apple this year. Similarly to the iPhone 11, the Pro and Pro Max are also powered with the A13 Bionic Chip and boast a better battery life than previous models of iPhone. Both the Pro and Pro Max include an incredible three cameras; one telephoto, one wide-angle and one ultra-wide-angle, making it one of the best camera phones on the market thanks to a combination of hardware and Apple’s own camera software. Both Pro models ship with a fast charger, allowing for far speedier charging times.
As with the iPhone 11, the Pro and Pro Max are available now.
The Apple Watch – Series 5
The Apple Watch continues to be a highly successful part of Apple’s roster, so it’s no surprise a new version of the popular smartwatch made an appearance of September’s showcase. This updated version includes a new Retina display that is always on, meaning there’s no longer any need to make a gesture to see your screen. This is achieved through more power-efficient technology, giving the Apple Watch Series 5 an impressive 18-hour battery life.
While there aren’t any serious advancements in additional functionality for the Apple Watch Series 5, a new compass option is included, and as with the new iPad, it is made from 100% recycled materials, except for the unique new ceramic model which has a slightly higher price point. International emergency calling is included as part of the smartwatch’s functionality also.
The new Apple Watch can be ordered now online direct from Apple.
The 7th Gen iPad
A fitting upgrade to 2018’s iPad model, with a few additional features, the 7th Gen iPad might not have the stylistic appeal of the Pro – which hasn’t received an update – but it does provide a larger screen at a great price point. Increasing from a 9.7 to 10.2-inch display, the change may seem small, but it does add some extra functionality in terms of content. This is made even better by Apple’s recent upgrade to the OS for iPads, adding even more productivity and functionality to an already well-used device.
With a more powerful A10 processor, and a body made of recycled materials, the new iPad may not be revolutionary, but it represents where the iPad is likely to be heading for the future. The new iPad is now available for order now.
Apple TV+
Apple TV+ is Apple’s answer to Netflix and Amazon Prime, offering original new shows to users of Apple devices. While we’ve already seen a few details about the various shows and programs that will be included on the new service in the past, the streaming platform was discussed on the stage in part thanks to exciting new show See, starring Jason Momoa, the first of many Apple TV+ exclusives that include shows and films from Steven Spielberg, JJ Abrams and Jennifer Aniston.
With the service launching entirely in November, and Apple TV+ to be offered with the purchase of any Apple device shortly, it remains to be seen if this new service will be as popular as its major competitors in the market.
Apple Arcade
Surprisingly representing the opening minutes of the Apple event, Apple Arcade was an unexpected announcement that is either very niche or a little impractical, depending on the way you prefer to play games. This new service will provide users with a way to access games from iOS, macOS and even Apple TV in one central location. Key titles include Frogger in Toy Town, as well as Sayonara Wild Hearts.
Apple Arcade will launch on the 19th of September and will come with a month’s free trial for users, after which a monthly subscription will be required to access to 100 games included in the launch.
