Move over WiFi, 5G laptops are coming to the UK this year
EE has announced the release of the first 5G laptop, which will be available to UK customers. The Lenovo Yoga 5G laptop will offer ultra-fast connectivity through the EE 5G network.
A strategic partnership
Lenovo has formed a strategic partnership with EE, which currently offers more 5G coverage than any of the other UK networks. The new Lenovo laptop will offer users 5G connectivity to the internet, which is 10 times faster than 4G.
The partnership between EE and Lenovo provides users with access to faster, simpler and more secure connections. As the PC industry begins to transform to adapt to a more mobile way of working, it seems a natural move for EE and Lenovo to form a partnership. For the last six years, EE has been named the best UK network by RootMetrics and the 5G service is now available in 80 cities and towns across the UK.
The world’s first 5G PC
The new Lenovo laptop is powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8CX 5G platform, which allows users to work, watch HD movies and play online games, all while on the go. The Yoga 5G is a convertible laptop which is equipped with Windows 10. It is only available through EE in the UK and users will benefit from reduced latency and ultra-fast connectivity, even in crowded cities. The patented 5G antenna system is the smallest 5G module available and allows 5G coverage to be made available in both tablets and laptops. In fact, the laptop includes 9 built-in 4Gb/s3 antennas to ensure a strong signal is provided.
The laptop is also equipped with excellent power efficiency, so users can benefit from a massive 24-hour battery life. The Lenovo designers have successfully created a light, thin laptop which is able to convert from laptop to tablet mode. This means the Yoga 5G is effortlessly portable and accessible, especially for users who rely on mobile working, collaborating, video-conferencing and even gaming, when not able to connect to a stable WiFi network.
Availability and pricing
The Lenovo Yoga 5G laptop is going to be available to UK customers later this year, through a variety of monthly plans from EE. Only a few details have been released so far, so actual plan prices are expected imminently.
The laptop itself will require an EE SIM card with 5G data allowance, which will enable users to connect to the EE network without a WiFi hotspot. At the moment it is unclear whether users will be able to purchase the laptop itself, without an EE contract.
As a team, we’re pretty excited about the release of this laptop and the possibilities it will provide to those that use laptops on the move. Surely it’s only a matter of time before our data SIM cards and home broadband connections all go one simple plan for seamless connectivity whether at home or out and about.
