One feature of the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus not really discussed at Apple’s launch event earlier this month has just been officially confirmed.
EE has upgraded it’s network to support Enhanced HD Voice or Enhanced Voice Services (EVS), which allows for the highest quality mobile phone calls ever on a smartphone. The new tech is compatible with the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, with more compatible phones soon to be added.
Enhanced HD Voice improves the sound quality of phone calls so they’ll sound much clearer than a standard voice call or even HD voice (a tech upgrade for calls rolled out a few years back). It’ll also increase the reliability of voice calls across EE’s 4G network, which currently sits at over 85% of the UK geography.
Enhanced HD Voice works over 4G, so when you make a phone call on the 4G network (or over WiFi Calling), your calls should be clearer than ever before.
Currently the service is only available on EE and on the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. More phones are will be enabled for the service over the next few months.
