Will we see the rumoured iPhone 12 and all it’s variants? Probably.

Apple has announced that it will be holding a digital-only ‘speed’ themed launch event to showcase its latest products – highly expected to be the new iPhone 12 – on 13th October.

This will be the second Apple event the Californian tech giant has held this year. The first, held back in September, revealed details of the Series 6 Apple Watch, the new iPad Air and the eighth-generation iPad. As a result, we expect the next Apple event to be an iPhone-centric launch, with the new iPhone 12 the likely showpiece.

The event will be broadcast at 10am, US west coast time (which means 5pm GMT here in the UK) from the Apple Park Campus in Cupertino, California. Expect the usual slick pre-recorded launch films for each of the new products.

Nothing has been officially announced yet but media and forums are speculating that we will see three different iPhones announced: the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max.  Let’s face it, we’re nearly at the end of the year, it would be a bit weird for Apple to not have a major flagship launch this year.

Rumours around the web state that the ‘entry-level’ model iPhone 12 will come in 5.4-in and 6.1-in screen sizes, while the Pro and Pro Max models will come in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes. The smallest version might even be branded as the ‘iPhone Mini’, as it features the smallest screen on an iPhone for several years. The largest screen, meanwhile, will be the biggest on an iPhone to date.

Design-wise, Apple is rumoured to be ditching the rounded look of its more recent phones for the iPhone 12, opting instead for a squared-off flat-edged look reminiscent of the old iPhone 6.

All iPhone 12s are expected to get 5G capability, though only the top-end models will be compatible with the faster mmWave 5G tech. Other tech available for the new phones is likely to include LiDAR scanners, plus the super-fast A14 chips first seen in the 2020 ‌iPad‌ Air earlier this year.
