Hitting stores in the UK soon will be the very latest Google Nexus smartphone, the Nexus 6. If you like your smartphones large then the Nexus 6 has a stunning display which measures in at just under 6 inches, 5.96-inches to be precise and it’s the result of a Google and Motorola collaboration. Let’s take a look at what you can expect.
If you thought that the Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus had impressively sized screens then the Nexus 6 tops both with its Quad HD 1440 x 2560 screen which offers a resolution of a fantastic 493 pixels per inch. The display – which has picture-perfect colours – is not far off the size of some of the tablets out there which makes it ideal for watching films and gaming. The 16:9 video aspect means it’s been designed for wide-screen film format too. The great quality dual speakers on the front of the handset also enhance the sound which is particularly welcome for film viewing.
Thanks to the hook up with Motorola, the design of the Nexus 6 is similar to that of the Moto X smartphone. It boasts a metal aluminium frame which is pretty slim at just over 10mm for a smartphone of this size and the rear cover is curved to make it comfortable to hold in your hand. For additional protection the Nexus 6 is water resistant and comes with a Gorilla Glass 3 screen.
The main camera located on the rear of the Nexus 6 is a decent 13-megapixels, it comes with a dual LED flash, autofocus and optical image stabilisation and a good f/2.0 lens. On the front is a handy 2-megaixel camera which is useful for video calling and, of course, the odd selfie.
The Nexus 6 is the first of the phablet-sized smartphones to run the new Android Lollipop 5.0 operating system straight out of the box. The beauty of Google made devices is that they offer the best Android user interfaces, easy and straightforward to use without any unnecessary extras. Android Lollipop came with some very welcome enhancements such as a new Messages app, customisable notifications on the lock screen so you can see at a glance if anything urgent has come in and a Priority Mode if you don’t want to be interrupted.
Inside the Nexus 6 smartphone, you’ll find a Snapdragon 805 quad-core 2.7GHz processor, a very decent 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard memory. The battery packs in 3220mAh and works well with the improved efficiency of Android Lollipop 5.0 so you should get around 36 hours of average use out of a single charge. Charging the Nexus 6 is also quick thanks to some new Quickcharge technology which means it takes less than an hour and a half to fully charge up. There’s also the option to charge wirelessly using a Qi-enabled charger or a Nexus Wireless charger.
