We could be just a matter a weeks away from the launch of several new products from Apple. Topping the bill will be Apple’s new smartphones – the iPhone 6S and the 6S Plus – which according to reports are likely to be unveiled on the 9th September. After the rumours surrounding a possible iPhone 6C handset went quiet over the last few months, it looks like it may become a reality with new reports that it will launch next year. Here’s the latest round-up on the three anticipated new iPhones.
The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will be the latest in the ‘S’ series of iPhones which Apple traditionally release in September. Both the 6S and 6S Plus will be an upgrade on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus which were released last year and in terms of looks, we expect new handsets to be pretty similar to the original versions. The iPhone 6S and 6 Plus are expected to come with the same-sized screens as the originals at 4.7-inches and 5.5-inches respectively.
It’s highly likely that the new iPhones will boast Force Touch displays as seen on the Apple Watch and some Mac Books. Force Touch is a new technology which can measure pressure being exerted on the gadget’s screen and it’s thought it will be used to speed up menu navigation by opening up short-cut menus and improving the security of the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The new iPhones are also thought to be available in an additional colour, as well as the Gold, Silver and Space Grey colour options, we could see a new Rose Gold (a pinky gold) coloured handset.
It’s also been reported that Apple may have gone with a different type of aluminium for the 6S and 6 Plus which is a 7000 series aluminium which is light yet 60% stronger and used in the Apple Watch. It’s thought that Apple could have addressed the ‘bending’ problems experienced by some with some parts of the internal parts of the new iPhone 6S and 6 Plus handsets reinforced. Other specs likely to feature in the iPhone 6S and 6 Plus are the new A9 chip which will be faster and more efficient, 2GB of RAM and the choice of 16GB, 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage.
In terms of the rear camera, there’s speculation that both the iPhone 6S and 6 Plus will come with a 12-megapixel lens, an upgrade on the 8-megapixel rear facing camera on the existing versions. The 12-megapixel camera is likely to have 4K recording capabilities and an extra microphone to improve sound quality. We could also see some new camera technology in the new iPhone 6S and 6 Plus due to Apple’s recent acquisition of LinX Imaging, these could include improved photos in low lighting and the ability to create 3D images from your iPhone photos.
We reckon that a smaller budget iPhone 6C smartphone is back on the cards if recent reports are to be believed. The latest speculation is that the 6C could be released around April or May 2016 and it will sport a 4-inch screen like its predecessor the iPhone 5C. Ideal for those wanting a cheaper and more compact iPhone, the 6C is rumoured to feature some decent specs including Apple’s new A9 processor chip and it could even come with the new Force Touch screen technology.
