Beta trials for Android users are starting next month.
Mario Kart is coming to your mobile phone in the form of Mario Kart World Tour, a brand new racing game from Nintendo being built specifically for smartphones. We’ve known for a while that the game was in development but we’re now one step closer to launch as Nintendo have announced a closed beta for Android phones in Japan and the USA on their website. The beta test is being run ahead of the games official launch this summer.
There’s no official confirmation yet as to whether the beta will be available on iPhones too, but we know the full game will be available for iOS when it launches. Nintendo are yet to show the game in action but their track record for previous Mario Kart games is near flawless, so we’re looking forward to this one.
It will be the first time a version of the hugely popular racing game has appeared on mobile phones. Like Super Mario Run, it will be free to start playing and if you like it you can pay for the full game.
Mario Kart World Tour is a key part of Nintendo’s strategy to introduce more people to their games, via smartphones. Following the success of Super Mario Run, there will no doubt be more Nintendo franchises on the way to your mobile. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is already available, along with Fire Emblem Heroes. This is in the hope that this will result in more Nintendo fans that then go on to purchase their games consoles.
