The list is officially confirmed but it will be a few months before the new emoji arrive on your phone. Unicode will release the update in March and then it’ll be down to the apps and operating systems from the like of Apple and Samsung to rollout their updates to support the new icons. The folk at Emojipedia have said that we should start seeing the updates kicking in from April and then throughout the rest of 2019.
Animal lovers will be pleased as in addition to flamingo and sloth, orangutan, skunk, oyster and otter are also arriving.
There are a huge number of people additions too, with 70 variations of ‘couples holding hands’ as well as wheelchair emoji, service dogs, hearing aid and prosthetic limbs. Many of these were proposed by Apple last year.
Unicode are expanding the shapes available too with new colours for heart, circle and square.
Yawning face and ‘pinching hand’ also make their debut.
