The Honor View 20 smartphone will make its European debut in Paris later on today as the brand takes on Samsung and Apple in the battle of 2019’s best flagship smartphone.

The launch event takes place at 4pm GMT and we’ll have all the updates here at Direct Mobiles as they happen, including a full video review.  And of course, when and where you can buy it.

The Honor View 20’s unique design really stands out from the crowd

There are three standout features on the Honor View 20; it’s unique reflective coating which creates a kind of ‘flying V’ effect on the back of the phone, its 48 megapixel camera and a display that covers nearly the entire front of the phone thanks to the punch hole camera design, rather than a notch.

The Honor View 20 has a 6.4 inch LCD display with 1080p so you’ll get HD video and photos.  Flip the phone over and you’ll see the unique design which has a moving V in different colours as you rotate the phone under light.  It’s a original idea to help make the View 20 standout in a world of similar looking smartphones.  It looks particularly striking in blue.

Under the hood, you’ll find a Kirin 980 processor, which is the same one you’ll find in the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, so plenty of power.

The camera is a real standout in terms of megapixels – 48 of them in fact.  It’s a single-lens camera which goes against the trend of packing multiple lens onto a smartphone (that’s you Samsung four lenses).  The camera lens is designed and built by Sony.

Battery-power is 4000mAh which should be plenty but we’ll have to see how it performs in the real world. The View 20 also supports fast charging via USB-C.

There’s fingerprint security on the rear of the phone but it’s worth noting that the Honor View 20 isn’t water resistant and doesn’t support wireless charging. However, that’s going to help keep the price down compared to the £1000 flagships available from other manufacturers.  When Honor unveiled the View 20 in China last year (known over there as the V20), it cost 2,999 Yaun, which is about £350.  Although no offcial pricing has been confirmed for the UK or the rest of Europe yet.  That’s likely to be confirmed at today’s Paris launch event.

If Honor can pack all these features into a phone half the price of an iPhone XS or Samsung S10, then they could really be onto a winner for 2019. The Honor View 20 will be officially announced at 4pm (5pm CET) today in Paris and we’ll have our full video review of the phone right here at Direct Mobiles and on our YouTube channel this afternoon, subscribe for the latest videos as they launch.
