Tests were run across 19 cities and 27 towns across the UK
Mobile network EE has topped the tables again as the UK’s best network in the umlaut connect 2025 Mobile Network Test, which marks the 10th year in a row that they have won the award.
The test was carried out by independent network testing organisation umlaut, an industry-recognised evaluation study.
To carry out their assessment, umlaut test mobile performance whilst walking and driving across an area that covers 25% of the UK population (17.2 million people), with data and call performance being measured in 19 cities, 27 towns, and across UK rail and road networks.
Overall, EE came top in all three of the main data, voice and crowdsourced testing categories, scoring a total of 913 points out of a possible 1,000. Vodafone came second (815), followed by Three (765) and in last place was was Virgin Media O2 (729) – though this year they did improve their score by 29 points.
As well as winning best overall network, EE was the leading operator in each of the nine large cities where local performance was analysed – London, Cardiff, Belfast, Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Manchester.

EE was also the first network to meet the UK government’s Shared Rural Network coverage targets and has also recently successfully switched off it’s old 3G network as now uses 5G and 4G for data.
In addition to powering EE’s own mobile services, EE’s network is also used by a number of UK MVNO brands including Lyca Mobile, Mozillion and Spusu.
