Sell Your iPhone
When it’s time to upgrade your iPhone, you have a few options – sell it privately, trade it in or give it to a family member.
Selling your iPhone privately will usually get you far more money for your compared to trading it in, but depending on where you sell your iPhone can determine exactly how much – and how easy it is.
You can sell or trade in your iPhone through any of these sites.
eBay will let you list and sell your iPhone either via auction or by setting a buy now price. You will need an eBay account and you are responsible for creating the listing, uploading photos, etc. eBay charge around 12.8% of the final sale price for using their platform. You can sell to people in the UK or abroad and if you price right and the phone is in good condition, you should get more compared to trading in. You can sell iPhones in any condition on eBay.
Mozillion, like eBay, is a marketplace but specifically for mobile phones. You don’t have to create a listing to sell your iPhone or upload images. You can choose to sell your iPhone instantly at the best offer from a buyer that’s already looking to buy or you can list at a price you choose. There is a 12% selling fee but it’s an anonymous platform so the buyer and seller don’t need to speak. Mozillion handle the selling process including verifying your phone and giving it a 24 month warranty making it more attractive to buyers and meaning even after fees, you’ll usually get far money for your iPhone compared to trading in. You can sell iPhones in good, excellent, good as new or brand new condition on Mozillion.
Music Magpie is a tech trade in site so you can sell more than just phones on there. It’s fast because they’ll give you an instant quote for your iPhone which is great if you need cash fast, but the downside of that is it will be far less than the value of your iPhone as Music Magpie make their money through reselling your phone to someone else later. They’ll give you an ‘up to’ quote for your phone and then assess it when you send it to them. There’s no fee for the platform and you can sell phones in poor, good or excellent condition.
Mazuma is the same type of platform as Music Magpie, in that it’s a tech trade in site. Like Music Magpie, there’s no fee for using the platform but the price you’re offered for your iPhone will usually be far less than it’s actual value – with the upside of being able to sell it to them instantly. You can sell iPhones in excellent, good or faulty condition, so Mazuma can be a good place to sell your iPhone if it’s broken.
With Apple’s trade in program, they won’t give you cash for your iPhone but instead give you credit to spend at Apple’s store. How much you get for your iPhone depends on what offers they have on their newer models. There’s no fee, but being a trade-in platform, they’ll give you an ‘up to’ quote and your phone will be assessed when they receive it and they’ll tell you how much they’ll give you for it which you can then choose to accept or decline. You can trade in iPhones in working condition or if your iPhone is faulty then they’ll recycle it for you.
Top tips for selling your iPhone
1. Choose the correct condition
With most of these sites, you’ll need to select the condition of your iPhone. Get it right! Don’t try and chance it by saying your phone is in perfect condition if it’s not. You’ll just end up disappointed when the phone is either returned to you or you’re given a lower price than you saw on the site.
2. Take photos of your phone (and video)
Before you send your iPhone away, take close up photos of every angle including the screen and the bottom of the device. That way you have evidence of what condition the phone was in before you sent it, should anything go wrong.
3. Record the IMEI number
Every iPhone has it’s own unique IMEI number which is lasered or printed somewhere on the phone and embedded into the software. You can view your iPhone’s IMEI on screen by pressing *#06# on your keypad. Make a note of it so you know exactly which phone you have sent.
