The Chinese manufacturer announced the phone alongside their new P60 Pro

Originally only launching in China, the foldable Huawei Mate X3 is now coming to Europe too, including the UK.  The Mate X3 claims to be the “world’s slimmest and lightest large-screen foldable smartphone” and features a 6.4 inch OLED external screen and a 7.85 inch OLED folding interior screen.

Boasting some new tougher screen tech, Huawei say the Mate X3’s external screen offers ten times more drop-resistance than the previous model – although at £2000 you may not want to be the one to test that claim out.

The phone also adds IPX8 water-resistance (the same rating as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4), a 50 megapixel (MP) main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide camera with macro support and a 12MP telephoto camera with a 5x optical zoom. You’ll also find an 8MP selfie camera on the internal and external screens.

Powering the device is a 4800mAh battery that supports 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and 7.5W reverse charging if you want to share some power with another device.  With fast-charging supported via a cable, Huawei claim you can fully charge the device in 37 minutes.

Huawei P60 Pro also unveiled

Huawei revealed the X3 launch news alongside another new flagship phone; the P60 Pro. Retailing at £1200-£1400, depending on which memory and RAM model you choose, the P60 Pro features an upgraded version of the once highly popular P30 Pro and P40 Pro camera setup. It features a 48MP main wide-angle camera with a variable aperture and optical image stabilisation, a 48MP telephoto camera with a 3.5x optical zoom and a 13MP ultrawide camera.

Huawei P60 Pro

The Mate X3 is available to pre-order now on Huawei’s UK site and goes on general sale at the end of May 2023.  The P60 Pro is available to buy now.

Both models utilise Huawei’s own app ecosystem as Google apps and Google’s own app store are officially not supported.
