Despite the pandemic and cancellation of physical tech events, new flagship smartphones are still in the pipeline for this month

Brands like Oppo, Honor and OnePlus are all planning to bring out new mobile phones around the globe this month so let’s have a closer look at what’s expected and the features they have to offer, based on the official information we have and some of the rumours floating around about these new devices.

Oppo Reno Ace 2

Oppo is releasing it’s affordable flagship model in April following the launch of it’s top-tier flagship models, the Find X2 and X2 Pro. The Oppo Reno Ace 2 will boast a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 20:9 aspect ratio.

It will have a punch-hole display with a 16 MP front camera embedded. On the back, there will be a quad-camera setup including a 48 MP primary lens, an 8 MP lens and a pair of 2 MP sensors. The sensors will be included in a round camera module with a dual LED flash.

Under the hood, there will be a 2.8 GHz octa-core processor, most likely the Snapdragon 865 paired with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal storage. It will be available in black, blue and purple. It is scheduled to launch mid-April.

OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro

This device lineup will be getting a live streamed event on Tuesday April 14th and will include at least two variants of the series. It may also be launching a more affordable variant, expected to be called the OnePlus Z. Both the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform which supports 5G connectivity. They will come with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 internal storage, as well as MEMC technology. They will boast 90 and 120 Hz Fluid AMOLED display, respectively.

The standard version will sport a 1080p resolution, while the Pro variant will be Quad HD+. There will also be a reverse wireless charging feature and a camera set up with up to 30x digital zoom.

Honor 30 and 30 Pro

Honor are heavily rumoured to be launching their new flagship devices shortly after the One Plus and 8 and 8 Pro on April 15th.

Last month they unveiled their affordable variant, the Honor 30S which is the first smartphone to be equipped with the Kirin 820 5G chipset.

Their next devices, the Honor 30 and 30 Pro will probably be equipped with the Kirin 990 5G SoC and will be available in four colours: pink, blue, silver and purple.

There is a strong possibility that this suite of devices will house a 50 MP Sony IMX7XX main sensor, a 12 MP ultrawide camera and an 8 MPl telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. They are also likely to feature a dual punch-hole display with a 90 Hz refresh rate.

iPhone SE 2020

Will they, won’t they? Nobody knows officially but it has been rumoured for some time that Apple will release a new mid-range phone, especially now that the iPhone 8 has started to run out of stock around the UK. It will apparently have the same front panel as the iPhone 7 and 8, including a 4.7-inch display. It is also rumored to come with up to 256 GB of internal storage and an Apple A13 Bionic processor, the same as the iPhone 11 series.

There are said to be three colour variants to choose from: black, white and red.

Huawei Nova 7 series

The Huawei Nova 7 is likely to debut on April 23rd. This series will supposedly include three devices: Nova 7 5G, Nova 7 Pro 5G, and Nova 7 SE 5G. The three variants are rumored to be powered by three different processors: Kirin 985, Kirin 990 and Kirin 820.

Meizu 17

Meizu is going to celebrate its 17th birthday by unveiling a new flagship sometime in April: the Meizu 17. The handset is rumoured to come with an OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate. It is said to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset paired with LPPDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 internal storage.

On the back of the device, there will most likely be a quad-camera setup with a 64MP primary lens, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, a 5MP telephoto lens and a 2MP depth sensor. There may also be stereo speakers, WiFi 6, NFC, and a 4500 mAh battery with 30W fast charging.

Honor Play 4T and 4T Pro

These devices are not flagship but are rather being positioned as value-for-money smartphones available in April. The Honor Play 4T Pro will house a 6.3-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution. It is equipped with a Kirin 810 chipset paired with 6 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage. On the back of the phone will be a 48 MP triple camera and the battery will have a 4000 mAh capacity.

Whether all of these arrive this month or not remains to be seen, especially given the ongoing global situation at the moment.  We’ll have all the latest mobile news, and of course, full deal comparisons as soon as they’re available.
