It can seem pretty daunting making the move from one smartphone operating system to another, however it can be done with minimal disruption and demands on your time, here are some tips when you switch from iOS to Android.

Contacts

One of the first things to think about is transferring your Contacts across from your iPhone to Android. If you haven’t already got a Gmail account then set once up before you begin as it can make things a whole lot easier. Go into iCloud on your iPhone – to do this you need to go into your Settings followed by Mail, Contacts, Calendars and finally Accounts. Chose the Contacts option and then you  also need to open iCloud up on your pc or laptop by accessing iCloud.com. Once you’re logged into iCloud, choose Contacts and click on Select All (under the symbol of a wheel bottom left). You then need to select Export v.Card by clicking on the wheel icon again and you’re ready to move the data into your Gmail. In your Gmail, you need to select the Mail button followed by Contacts. Locate the ‘More’ button situated about your Contact List and choose ‘Import’ and the iOS v.Card file you want to transfer.

Photos, Video and Music

One of the great things about switching operating systems is that you don’t have to lose your photos, videos and music as you can take it with you. To move your photos and videos across, download the Google+ app onto your iPhone if it’s not already there. You then need to log into Google+ using your Gmail user name and password and find the AutoBackup option. AutoBackup can be found in the Menu icon followed by the Gear icon at the top on the right hand side. Once you’ve done this go into your Camera on your iPhone, then access your Photos and then AutoBackup and your photos and videos will start saving across to Cloud ready for your new Android smartphone.

You can also move your music from iTunes over to Google Play without too much hassle. Firstly check your iPhone is already synching your iTunes music onto your PC or laptop, this makes sure that all your existing tracks are backed up. You then need to install Google Play Music Manager onto your PC or laptop and then you need to open it ready to transfer your tracks. Decide whether you’re going to upload all your iTunes or particular playlists, select ‘Upload’ and your music will transfer across. Once that’s done, you can then download your music onto your Android handset by simply opening up the Google Play Music app and saving the tracks.
