Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri, is a rather useful tool. In fact, it’s probably more useful than you think because here are 1o things you probably didn’t realise Siri could do.
Help you Lose Weight
If you’re trying to lose a few lbs before the summer, Siri can assist with keeping your diet on track as you can ask for the calorie content in food and drink and keep tabs on what you’re consuming each day.
Set Alarms or Reminders
You don’t need to manually set your own alarms or reminders in your calendar, simply ask Siri to do it for you. For example, set my alarm clock for 7am tomorrow or remind me at 5pm today to go to the hairdressers.
Calculate some Maths
Rather than having to go into the calculator app, Siri can give you the answers to any maths sums you need to work out. This can be really handy for working out your share of the bill if you’re dining with friends and splitting the cost or for work calculations when you’re on the move.
Reminders based on your Location
Once you’ve set up useful locations on your smartphone GPS such as where home is or where you work, you can also take advantage of Siri’s location-based reminders. Such as ‘Remind me to pick up some bread when I get home’ or ‘Remind me to call Pete when I get to work’.
Update your Social Media
If you want to post on your Twitter or Facebook account, it’s very quick and easy to get Siri to do it for you and even better you can do it hands-free. Just a simple command to Siri such as ‘Post to my Twitter followed by your comment’ and then you can send it to update your feed.
Work out Days and Dates
Find out what day a particular date falls on or how many days there are until a certain date by asking Siri ‘ What day is the August Bank Holiday in the UK?’.
Locate an Email
Rather than having to scroll through your emails trying to find a specific one, Siri can help you to save some time by doing it for you. Emails can be tracked down in terms of who sent them, their title or the date they were sent. For example, ‘Find all emails sent on the 2nd May 2015.’
Read out Emails and Texts
As well as finding your emails, Siri can also read them out for you. This also applies to your text messages as well. In addition you can ask for Siri to reply to messages which can be a great time saver. Simply ask Siri to ‘Read my email’.
Locate Settings on Smartphone
If you want to change some of your iPhone or iPad settings, Siri can open up the settings for you so you can view and alter them. This means you don’t need to trawl through the menus trying to find the one with the particular setting you’re after. Similarly Siri can open up apps on your device if you ask her to. For example, ‘Open up the Fitbit app’.
Check What’s On at the cinema
Another great hands-free and quick way of finding out information it to ask Siri to do it for you. Such as ‘What is on at the Odeon Cinema Sheffield’. Siri can also be used to find restaurants, theatres and details on local attractions.
