M9vsM8

At the beginning of March, HTC launched their brand new flagship smartphone – the HTC One M9. It’s predecessor the HTC One M8 has won many accolades so we let’s take a look at how the newest premium HTC smartphone compares with its predecessor.

At first glance the design and look of the HTC One M9 is fairly similar to the One M8. HTC pride themselves on their craftsmanship and styling and the M9 is also curvy in shape with a beautiful metallic two-tone finish. Available in 4 shimmering colour choices, the M9 comes with a tough scratch-resistant coating and improved front-facing dual BoomSound speakers which feature Dolby sound. HTC have also gone with a similar display on the M9  – they’ve kept it at 5-inches in size with Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution.  Both handsets offer 441 pixels per inch.

The Duo camera which was on the rear of the HTC One M8 has been replaced on the M9 by a single and powerful 20-megapixel camera which includes a dual LED flash. However, an Ultrapixel camera similar to the secondary lens which featured on the M8 is now included on the front of the HTC One M9 and boasts dynamic exposure. HTC have upgraded the camera software for the M9, there are some great new features such as the HTC One Gallery app which provides a central storage solution for photos and social media images.

It looks like the HTC One M9 is one of the fastest new smartphones on the market according to recent tests which assess processing power in smartphones and tablets. The M9 comes with the new octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor with 64-bit technology compared to the quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor in the M8. The RAM has been upped from 2 to 3GB and the onboard storage has been doubled from 16GB to 32GB. This can be further increased to 128GB thanks to the MicroSD slot. There’s a whopping 2840mAh battery in the HTC One M9 which allows for around 22 hours of 3G talk time and the fast charging functionality means you can get a 60 per cent charge in approximately 30 minutes.

As you would expect, the HTC One M9 has Android Lollipop 5.0 pre-installed. HTC have also given their Sense User Interface a make-over – the new Sense 7 UI has a customisable Themes app with icons styles, fonts, wallpapers and colours. It’s also been tailor-made for users with app suggestions and recommendations according to your location and HTC Blinkfeed has been improved.
