htc-one-m8The new HTC One M9 smartphone is rumoured to be making its debut on the 1st March, the same day that the Samsung Galaxy S6 is expected to launch. There have certainly been a lot less leaks to the press concerning the M9 but that hasn’t stopped the speculation building in the last few months. According to the latest reports, this is how the HTC One M9 is expected to compare to its predecessor the HTC One M8.

Design & Build

The HTC One M8 has a metallic aluminium single-body design with a 5-inch SUPER LCD3 screen complete with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels which gives it 441 pixels per inch. It weighs in at 160g and is just over 9mm thin and is available in 3 colour choices – Glacial Silver, Gunmetal Grey and Amber Gold. The speculation is that the HTC One M9 could be as slim as 7mm and its design is likely to be similar to the M8 with an aluminium build, dual BoomSound speakers located on the front and a degree of waterproof protection.

The display on the M9 is rumoured to be a 5.2-inch full HD display or HTC may well have decided to stick to the same 5-inch display sported by the M8. Colour-wise it’s likely that there will be a variation on the grey, silver and gold themes.

Processor & Specs

The M8 features a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor and 2GB of RAM. We expect at least 3GB of RAM in the M9 which is pretty standard for new premium smartphones and it’s likely to include the new octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor.

The 2600mAh battery in the M8 is impressive and gives around 24 hours of average use, the M9 could come with a 2840mAh battery which may offer an even better battery life. The onboard storage for the M8 is 16GB of expandable memory, we anticipate that the M9 will come with a choice of storage options possible up to 64GB which can be increased further with a MicroSD card. The M9 is bound to come with the new Android Lollipop 5.0 operating system and also an upgraded version of the HTC Sense operating system.

Camera

Reports seem to indicate that the M9 will not feature an UltraPixel Duo Camera which is on the rear of the M8. Instead we could see a powerful 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilisation and a dual LED flash as well as an excellent 13-megapixel camera on the front.

A HTC One M9 Plus?

There have also been rumours that HTC will launch a second M9 smartphone on March 1st called the HTC One M9 Plus. Similar to the iPhone 6 Plus, it’s allegedly got a 5.5-inch QUAD HD display, a duo camera like the M8 and possibly a fingerprint scanner.

One thing’s for certain – we won’t have to wait long to find out…
