Hot off the press this week are details of not one but two new smartphones from Motorola. Following the success of their original 2013 Moto G and Moto X mobile phones, they are launching a second generation Moto G and Moto X (yes they have the same names!). We take a look at the brand new Moto G and Moto X smartphones.
The original Moto G handset wowed critics and consumers alike last year with a frankly amazing smartphone complete with excellent specs and an appealing design. One year later and Motorola are set to impress again with a bigger and better Moto G which comes with an excellent 5-inch LCD screen (half an inch bigger than the original) and a very respectable screen resolution of 294 ppi. The main camera on the rear has also been upped from 5-megapixels to 8MP and comes with an LED flash and autofocus and the 2-megapixel camera on the front is also an enhancement from the 1.2-megapixel camera of its predecessor.
Available in either white or black and priced at a similar level to the 2013 version, the Moto G will originally run on Android KitKat 4.4.4 which will be fully upgradeable to Android L. The Moto G comes in a 8 or 16GB option (expandable up to 32GB) and sports a quad-core Snapdragon 400 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. At the other end of the spectrum but still offering excellent value for money and a mouth-watering array of specs and features is the new Moto X. Moto X is Motorola’s flagship and top of the range smartphone and if you thought the original Moto X was impressive then check out the information below.
The new Moto X also boasts a bigger, sharper and more vibrant screen which measures in at 5.2-inches. It offers a FULL HD AMOLED display with a superb resolution of 424 ppi (1080 x 1920) and is now encased in a top quality curved metal frame. In tradition with its love of curves, the Moto X also has an aesthetically pleasing curved shape on the rear which keeps the design compact despite its larger screen. The Moto X also offers Motorola’s unique Moto Maker smartphone customisation service which means that there are now seemingly limitless customising options to make your Moto X handset unique. There are choices of materials for the rear cover such as bamboo, real leather and plastic, other customisable features and a great selection of colour combinations. You can also get your handset engraved if you want to.
The 2014 Moto X come with the new Moto Actions feature which are enhanced gesture and voice commands to control your phone. You can wake up your smartphone with your very own voice command, wave over it to silence it if you can’t take a call and hold your hand in front of it to pick up any notifications without fully waking it.
The camera on the new Moto X has been upgraded from 10 megapixels to a 13-megapixel version complete with a dual LED flash and a 4 x digital zoom. The front-facing camera is also a very respectable 2-megapixels with a resolution of 1080p.
The Moto G is powered by the latest CPU technology, a Snapdragon 801 quad-core 2.5GHz processor together with 2GB of RAM. It comes in a 16GB of 32GB version which is non expandable and a decent 2300mAh battery which can be ‘turbo charged’ to give 8 hours of use in just 15 minutes.
