Earlier this week, all those weeks of rumours and speculation finally came to an end when Apple launched their latest smartphones, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

As predicted, both of the new handsets come with bigger screens than their predecessors. The iPhone 6 will sport a 4.7-inch screen whilst the iPhone 6 Plus boasts a 5.5-inch display. Except for size, there is very little difference between the two iPhone 6 models, the only variations are the screen resolution and their cameras.

Both versions of the iPhone 6 will feature ‘Retina HD’ displays and the latest in screen technology with improved colour contrast. Thanks to the larger screens, the iPhone 6 comes with a screen resolution of 1334 x 750 which gives it a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch, whilst the iPhone 6 Plus has an impressive 1920 x 1080 resolution (401 ppi).

Apple have also overhauled the design of their newest iPhones with a sleeker and more slimline shape as well as curved edges and a gently curving screen. There isn’t any sapphire glass (unlike the Apple Watch) as yet but the two iPhone 6 models will come with ion strengthened glass screens and will offer better viewing angles, perfect for gaming and watching video.

The inside of the iPhone 6 handsets has also seen a significant upgrade with a new and more powerful A8 64bit chip which Apple claim will boast the iPhone 6 processor performance by around 25% and up to 50% in terms of graphics. As ever the battery life is always a big topic of conversation and this has apparently been vastly improved and should enable 14 hours of talk time for the iPhone 6 and 24 hours for the iPhone 6 Plus and 10 and 12 hours of internet browsing respectively.

The cameras on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus are a step up from the iPhone 5 series. Both are 8-megapixel iSight cameras with state of the art technology called Focus Pixel for super fast auto focus. The iPhone 6 Plus will also feature Optical Image Stabilization which gives it the ability to focus more accurately and negate any camera shake.

Another significant new feature for the iPhone 6 handsets is the inclusion of NFC to enable mobile payments which will be known as Apple Pay. Apple Pay will initially be available in the USA and users will be able to use their new iPhones or Apple Watch to make payments for goods and services.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be hitting stores from September 19th and will come in 3 choice of colour – gold, silver and space Grey.
