No exact date yet but we now know the month

With the big four (EE, Vodafone, Three and O2) all now confirming their plans for 5G, the MVNOs are now beginning to announce their 5G switch on dates, including Sky Mobile.

Sky Mobile will launch 5G during November this year. The exact date hasn’t yet been confirmed that will get confirmed as we get nearer to the month.

Sky have confirmed two phones so far will be available at launch; the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and the freshly announced Huawei Mate 20 X 5G with its 7.2 inch OLED display which is ideal for watching video.

Four cities will benefit from Sky Mobile 5G initially; London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast, as well as Leeds and Slough. Those are all the locations confirmed so far but Sky have said they plan to have 5G in 20 towns and cities before the end of 2019, with a total of 50 being covered by the end of 2020.

Sky Mobile is powered by O2’s network so its no surprise that the confirmed launch locations for Sky are the same as O2’s. Given that GiffGaff also runs on O2’s network, we think they’ll also have the same locations at launch, although GiffGaff are yet to confirm their 5G plans.

Sky Mobile are yet to confirm just how much all their 5G plans will cost, but it’s worth noting that Sky often promote smaller data allowances as their lead offers – given that 5G will allow you to do so much more than just surfing the web and watching Netflix, they may choose to introduce some bigger data allowances.

Data Rollover

Sky have confirmed their 5G plans will include data rollover, which means any unused data at the end of the month will roll over into the following month’s allowance. You can keep your rolled data for up to three years and use it whenever you need to or cash it in for money off new phones, accessories or tablets.

Sky Mobile plans will also offer unlimited streaming on official Sky apps such as Sky Go, Sky Sports and Sky Kids without using any data allowance.

“We will be the only mobile operator to be able to combine the launch of next generation superfast 5G connectivity with Sky Mobile’s unique features including Roll, Swap and Watch,” said Sophia Ahmad, Commercial Director of Sky Mobile.

Once Sky Mobile confirm all their 5G pricing, we’ll have more information right here and a full comparison available with all networks. You can register for offer updates by email from Direct Mobiles here.
