Rent or lease a phone instead of buying it may reduce your phone bill

03/10/24 update: Mozillion no longer offer phone renting, but have launched pay monthly phone contracts and SIM only plans.

  • UK mobile phone marketplace Mozillion now lets customers rent a phone instead of buying it
  • The phone is rented on a monthly contract and handed back at the end of the term or swapped for an upgrade
  • Mozillion say it can save people hundreds of pounds on their phone costs
  • Returned phones are then reused or recycled to help the environment

With many flagship mobile phone models soaring past the £1000 mark these days, some of the latest models that launch each year are just not as affordable as they used to be.  This, coupled with increasing costs for mobile data, calls and texts means consumers have been searching for ways to keep their bills down – this is one of the reasons the refurbished phone market has seen phenomenal growth.

As well as costing more, unused phones also still end up in landfills or tucked away in drawers never to be used again, which is hardly great for the environment as it means these phones don’t get reused or recycled so more new materials are needed to make even more new phones.

Mobile phone marketplace Mozillion has launched a potential solution to help the planet and consumers with their phone bills, in the form of renting a mobile phone instead of buying it.

The big upside to renting a phone is the potentially lower monthly cost compared to a traditional pay monthly phone contract, plus no upfront cost.

At the end of your 12, 24 or 36 month rental plan, you hand the phone back, upgrade, keep renting, or you have the option to buy the phone outright.

The latest iPhone 15 Pro for example can be rented at Mozillion for £25.68 per month.

Because it’s a rental agreement rather than mobile phone contract, customers aren’t hit with any annual price increases for the device.  If you then pair that with a £8 a month 50GB Smarty SIM only plan for example, then you’re paying £33.68 a month.

Phones currently available to rent at Mozillion include the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy S24 and Google Pixel 8 Pro.  These are all brand new phones, but Mozillion have said certified refurbished phones will be added to the range soon too.

All phones include a lifetime warranty and are unlocked for use with any UK network.  The Mozillion rental offer is in partnership with rental payments service Raylo.

As Mozillion is a marketplace, customers can also sell their current phone on the platform, often for more money compared to trading in.
